Carolina CIC and Horse Trials – Raeford, NC. March 21-23, 2014

We spent the weekend in North Carolina at the Carolina CIC and Horse Trials on our way from Aiken, SC back home to Nottingham, PA. Courtney competed with Who’s a Star (Tag) at Advanced, R Star (Hope) at Intermediate, and Kim Russell’s Allia (Lia) at Training. Kim also competed riding I’m Perfect (Diamond) at Preliminary.

Courtney and our homebreds both had very good dressage tests with Tag placing 3rd of 39 horses and Hope 4th of 55. Kim planned to compete both of her horses, but when she injured her arm earlier in the week, she decided to have Courtney ride Lia. Courtney & Lia had a fair test placing 9th. Kim did a good job with her injured arm to place 15th.

For the upper-level horses, stadium jumping was next, with Tag jumping clear with a little time to move to 6th and Hope adding 2 rails to move to 17th. Kim, who was taking things one day at a time, rode great adding just a rail to move up to 12th. Courtney & Lia did cross country as their 2nd phase, going clear and under time to move up to 6th.

On cross country, Tag ran very well jumping clear with a little time to finish in 6th place. Hope ran well over most of the course but stopped at the second water complex to finish out of the ribbons. Kim and Diamond jumped the first half of the course clear before having some difficulty and retiring. Courtney & Lia finished with a good round in stadium jumping, but had 2 rails to finish out of the ribbons.
