September 1-3 - Kentucky Classic
Horse Trials - Lexington, Kentucky |
| We traveled to Kentucky with
the hopes of qualifying Toy Story for the Radnor Hunt CCI**
by competing in the CIC**. Unfortunately, he had
difficulties with part of a combination on cross county and
did not achieve a qualifying score. So instead of returning
home, we went from Kentucky to Georgia (see below) for the
last CIC** before Radnor.
Also making the trip to Lexington were Cassie's Shot
competing at Training and Chocolate competing at Novice.
In their first competition together, Courtney and Cassie had
a good outing, placing 7th in the dressage and jumping well
to move up and finish in 5th place. Chocolate and Courtney
placed 2nd in the dressage, and went to do well, but had a
few problems on cross country to fall out of the ribbons.

September 8-10 - Poplar Place Farm
Horse Trials - Hamilton, Georgia |
| After spending the week in
nearby Newnan, Georgia, Courtney and Toy Story began the CIC**
by placing 6th in the dressage. They went on to add a clean
cross country jumping round to move up to 4th and finish the
stadium jumping with a qualifying score maintaining their
4th-place standing and allowing them to compete in the
Radnor Hunt CCI** in October.
Moving up to Preliminary, Courtney and Cassie's Shot did
very well in the dressage, placing 1st. The pair went on to
jump clean in cross county adding only a little time;
together with a good show jumping round they finished 5th.
Chocolate also had a very good dressage test; competing at
Novice, Courtney and he scored 24.7 (75.3%) and placed
1st. They added only a rail in stadium jumping to slip to
2nd, but unfortunately had some trouble at the ditch on
cross country and did not finish.
Competing at the Training Level, Kathy Bell rode Toy
Master. They did well in the dressage and then went on
to jump clean on cross country to move into 2nd place.
Finally in stadium jumping, they added a rail, as did nearly
the entire division to maintain their placing, finishing
2nd.

September 20-24 - American Eventing
Championships, Southern Pines, North Carolina |
| Kathy Bell and Toy Master
competed in the Junior Training Rider division. They
did well in the dressage before jumping clean on cross
country and in stadium to finish 12th out of 42.
Competing in the Open Training division, Emily Hamel and
Grenadier Guard did well but finished out of the ribbons. |
|
September 23-24 - Plantation Field
Horse Trials - Unionville, Pennsylvania |
| Courtney competed with Cassie's
Shot at the Preliminary Level. The pair did well in all
three phases, finishing cross country with no jumping or
time faults. Unfortunately, a few rails in stadium jumping
kept the pair out of the ribbons.

September 30-October 1 - Middleburg
Horse Trials - Middleburg, Virginia |
| In their last competition
before the Radnor Hunt CCI**, Courtney and Toy Story
competed at the Intermediate Level, starting with a good
dressage test, placing 7th. They added just one rail in
stadium jumping to end Saturday in 3rd place. On Sunday,
the pair did great on most of cross country, but added one
jumping penalty to fall out of the ribbons.
Courtney rode Cassie's Shot at the Preliminary Level. In
a large division with 23 competitors, Cassie and Courtney
did well in the dressage, placing 9th, less than 5 points
out of the lead. They added a good stadium jumping round to
maintain their placing, and then on Sunday, went clean and
under time on cross country to move up and finish 6th.
Courtney also competed with Hagrid at the Novice Level.
Competing in his first horse trials on the East Coast,
Hagrid did well in all three phases: placing 10th out of 22
in dressage, clean in stadium jumping, and only alittle time
on cross country to finish in the top 10.
