March 9-11 - Jumping Branch Farm
Horse Trials -
Aiken, South Carolina |
| Competing in our last event of
the year in Aiken, Courtney and Lord Robert led the way
competing at Preliminary. Putting in a good
dressage, they stood in 2nd place before cross country.
No jumping faults, but a little bit of time dropped them to
4th. They finished up with a clean stadium jumping
round moving up to take home the blue ribbon. At Beginner
Novice, Courtney rode Dante. The pair continued their
winning ways, leading from start to finish with a good
dressage test and clean cross country and stadium jumping
rounds. Courtney also rode Havasu Canyon at Training.
After dressage, they added double clean cross country and
stadium jumping rounds to move up and finish in 7th place.

March 16-18 - Southern Pines Horse
Trials - Raeford, South Carolina |
| Stopping on our way home, five
horses competing at this event at the Carolina Horse Park.
Competing at Preliminary were Courtney on Lord Robert, Emily
Hamel on Grenadier Guard (Declan), Sara Gartland on Always a
Lady, and Christine Weir on Amadeus. Courtney
also competed on Havasu Canyon at Training. For dressage
on Friday we were met with pouring rain and temperatures
falling into the 30s. All did well in the dressage,
with Emily, Sara, and Christine all finishing in the top ten
in the Young Riders Division. Courtney and Bob also
placed in the top ten in their division, and Courtney and
Havasu put in an good test. The weather improved
greatly on Saturday for stadium jumping. Everyone had
good rounds, with Emily and Declan, leading the way with a
double clear round.
On cross country, Courtney & Bob lead off things with a
good round, marred by a glance off at a tricky combination.
Unfortunately, Emily and Declan followed a little too
closely in their footstep duplicated the same feat. A
change in strategy was chosen for Sara and Christine who
approached the jumps on a different line, solving that
problem. Sara jumped clean adding only some time to
her score. Christine encountered a little difficulty
elsewhere on the course. At Training, Courtney and
Havasu had a great round finishing double clear. All
of the horses finished out of the ribbons.
