With Courtney only competing 2 horses, the weather upstaged the eventing at times. On Saturday, Courtney rode Nevaeh in the 5-year-old Young Event Horse class. Nevaeh was poured on several times on her way to scoring 73%, to earn a qualifying score for the year-end championships. She would need another qualifying score in the one of the few remaining YEH competitions to qualify to compete at Fair Hill in October.
We returned on Sunday with Courtney riding Walking on Broadway (Holiday) at the Preliminary Level. The pair did their dressage during a period of very heavy rain but still managed a respectable 33.9. The rain stopped during their stadium warmup leaving them with some sloppy footing to contend with; Holiday added a rail to his score. He went on to jump clear on cross country, but Courtney took some extra as he was slipping a little from what turned out to be a lost shoe. He finished 8th.
