Sporting Days Farm Horse Trials – Aiken, SC. February 7-8, 2009

The first horse trials at Sporting Days was a very busy one, with 9 rides for Courtney. She could not have done it without wonderful help from Kelley, Jasmine, and Brittany Rhodes, who made a surprise visit down from Pennsylvania.

At Training, all of the horses put in good performances with Goo Goo Doll jumping a double clear to finish 6th; True Grit going clear on cross county and adding only a rail in stadium to finish 8th; Fenwick jumping a double clear but adding a little time on cross country to place 9th; Starburst jumping a double clear to place 11th; and Mooney Time, who competing in his 1st Training, placed 5th in the dressage, jumped clear in stadium but added a green stop on cross country to drop out of the ribbons.

At Novice, all three horses finished in the ribbons, with Star Dazzler leading the way with a double clear jumping performance to finish in 2nd place; Kiltealyman also jumped a double clear to place 5th; and Chaucer jumped clear on cross country but added a rail in stadium to end up 7th. Jasmine also rode her own On April’s Dawn, placing 7th in the dressage and jumping a double clear; they did add a few seconds of time in stadium to finish out of the ribbons.

Rounding out Courtney’s rides was Scout, who moved into a vacant spot at Preliminary. Since he had competed only a few days earlier at Full Gallop, Courtney intentionally did only dressage and stadium jumping. For his first outing at this level, Scout did quite well as he prepared to compete in all three phases in few days.
