Checking in from Nottingham – Sept 18th, 2020

This weekend is going to be a rare weekend off from competing for Courtney and the C Square team. The team is going to try to take some time to rest and recharge for the remainder of the fall season, which includes the East Coast Young Event Horse Championships at the end of October. Currently we have over 10 horses qualified, so we’re looking forward to showing them off.

This past weekend was a big one for the C Square horses at Flora Lea with several horses moving up a level. The big winner of the weekend was Excel Star Darcy, who won his Novice division. Excel Star Time to Shine (“David”) and Excel Star Tick Tock (“Tickles”) successfully moved up to Preliminary, the B.E.S.T. Group’s Briarhill Excel Star Take 2 (“Maeve”) moved up to Training, and newbie Excel Star Now or Never (“Foxy”) moved up to Novice. We couldn’t be more pleased with how this group of young horses–all under 6 years of age–handled themselves.

Students, and B.E.S.T. group members, Kathleen Bertuna and Robin King also competed at Flora Lea. Kathleen took home the win with her own Excel Star Harry in their Training division! Robin successfully moved up to Novice with only a small blip on cross-country that shouldn’t detract from how great she rode the rest of the day.

Fun fact, we’ve long used Flora Lea as a move up event for our horses and riders. Neal did his first Novice, Training AND Preliminary there years ago!

Per usual it was a busy week of showing horses to potential buyers this week. And we’re thrilled that our longtime student Kim Russell purchased one of our new imports Excel Star Phoenix. It was love at first sight for these two and we can’t wait to watch their progress!

Please be sure to stay in touch, either via phone, email or one of our social media outlets. Let us know how you’re doing … but know that we can’t wait to be able to see you in person soon.

Don’t forget to tune into our Facebook page every Tuesday for a Facebook LIVE event. Our sales series is being featured on Eventing Nation for the next three weeks, and we wanted to share the second video of the series with everyone here as well. We hope you enjoy and please let us know if you have any topics that you’d like us to tackle in upcoming weeks.

All the best,
Courtney and Neal
