This was the farm’s first time competing at the annual fall horse trial held at beautiful Rosaryville State Park near Bowie, Maryland. Scout and Fernhill Dunbyrne(Conor) were Courtney’s two rides for the weekend, going Training and Preliminary, respectively. This was Conor’s first preliminary competition in the states, and only his second competition with Courtney. After a respectable dressage test that put them in 8th place, the pair got ready for their jumping phases. The stadium course proved to be the biggest challenge for many of the competitors that day as it was on uneven terrain and had a lot to look at all around it. Conor had a few issues. but then bounced right back with a clear cross-country round that brought them up to a 7th place finish for the day.
Scout was competing in only his second Training level competition ever and was entered in a division of 25 tough competitors. His dressage round was lovely and placed him 3rd out of 25 going into the jumping phases. Scout was not immune to the distractions of the show jumping venue either and dropped an uncharacteristic two rails. However, he quickly followed that with a super double-clear cross-country round and finished up 4th in his large and challenging division.
