Stuart Horse Trials – Victor, NY. July 14-17, 2011

Courtney traveled to upstate New York with Who’s a Star (Tag) and Nevaeh, as well as summer students Gillian Cowley, who was riding American Outlaw (Wyatt), and Anna Schmitt, who was helping groom for the weekend.

Courtney and Tag competed in the CIC 2* division. They led off with a very good dressage test and were the leading horse / rider pair through the first 14 rides. They ended up placing 4th out of 23 in dressage. Courtney and Nevaeh, who competed at the Training Level, also had a good test. Unfortunately Nevaeh was bothered by bugs which appeared just as she was finishing her warm up, and her best work of the day did not make it into the ring.

With the ground very hard, Courtney decided not to run either horse cross country, saving Tag for better footing and another CCI this fall. And allowing Nevaeh, who recently recovered from a splint, to avoid the extra concussion of galloping on hard ground. Nevaeh was allowed to jump the Stadium course on Sunday, and she and Courtney put in a very nice fault-free round.

Gillian was planning on riding her own Gabriella Rosellini, but a last minute issue with Gabby kept her in Nottingham. We were able to fill her spot by substituting Wyatt, one of the experienced horses we have for sale. Gillian and Wyatt started off with a competitive dressage test, tying for 7th place in the Junior Training Rider division.

They went on to a cross country round that Gillian called a lot of fun, with her and Wyatt jumping clear and under time. On Sunday, they continued with a good stadium round, but unfortunately added some penalties to finish in 12th place.

Congratulations also go to Nicholas Hansen and C Square Farm Alum Grand Cru who led from start to finish in the Junior Training Rider division.
